Mother’s Help do not work on a sole charge basis. They work alongside the mother, and in this way, they gain further childcare experience. They learn on the job. They are not as experienced as a professional Nanny and do not generally have childcare qualifications. A Mother’s Help will look after your child and will also carry out some light housework. As with a Nanny, a Mother’s Help can be live in or live out and work full time or part time.
Mother’s Helps generally work five days per week, around ten hours per day. However, since they are working alongside the mother, they may work fewer hours than a full time Nanny (around 8-9 per day). Mother’s Helps can also work on a part time basis.
- Live out: A Mother’s Help gets paid around £8 -£9 net per week. The rate depends on their experience and the number of children they are looking after. This is equivalent to an approximate annual total gross salary of £21K to £25K total gross per year for a 40 hours per week. The salaries of a part time Mother’s Help will be based on the same net hourly rate as a full time live out Nanny.
- Live in: The net hourly rate of a live in Mother’s Help varies depending on the person. For a live in arrangement you will be paying for their food and you will be providing suitable accommodation. If you require her to do a couple of Babysitting nights per week, this also needs to be added to the number of total hours they work per week. The salaries of a part time live in Mother’s Help will be based on the same net hourly rate as a full time live out Nanny.
